A Washington state man is facing a felony assault charge after allegedly hitting a 10-year-old boy who was part of a group he claimed was being loud and throwing popcorn in a Kent, Wash. movie theater.
In court documents, prosecutors charged Yong Hyun Kim, 21, with second degree assault for the April 11 incident at the AMC Theater at Kent Station, south of Seattle. It happened around 10:30 p.m. during a 3D movie, the name of which was not mentioned in the documents.
The child told police Yong climbed over a row of seats and said something to the effect of ?You know what, I paid a lot of money to see this movie,? then hit the boy with a closed fist. The impact allegedly left the boy with a bloody nose and knocked-out a tooth.
Yong told officers that there was a group sitting behind him and his girlfriend, being loud and throwing popcorn. He told a detective at the jail that the ?subjects? were running back and forth in the aisle, hitting Yong with their arms. When he stepped over the row of chairs and told them to quiet down, they allegedly laughed at him and continued making noise. That?s when Yong said he hit one of the people with an open hand, according to the court documents.
Police say Yong thought he had hit a grown man. He claimed he didn?t know how young the child was until police told him.
Yong is scheduled to be arraigned May 31.
Is this guy a hero or a jerk?
